The role sits within an organisation focused on improving equitable and excellent outcomes for learners across Aotearoa. You will be part of collaborative teams working with senior leaders, Ministers’ offices, central agencies, and key stakeholders across the education sector.

What you will do

  • Assist with preparation for collective bargaining, including negotiations, implementation, and related employment relations work.
  • Contribute to bargaining approaches, analysis, stakeholder engagement, and settlement rollout.
  • Carry out research and provide advice on employment relations and workforce matters.
  • Draft, coordinate, and manage responses to ministerial correspondence, Official Information Act requests, Parliamentary Questions, Select Committee requests, and Chief Executive correspondence.
  • Support proactive information release activity and provide advice on official information matters.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Juggle multiple priorities while delivering strong outcomes in a busy environment.
  • Help improve processes and support continuous improvement initiatives.

What you will bring

  • Experience operating within a complex organisation.
  • A track record of building productive partnerships and relationships.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare advice, reports, or formal correspondence.
  • Good analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
  • High attention to detail and sound judgement.
  • The ability to manage deadlines and competing demands effectively.
  • Interest in or knowledge of employment relations, workforce policy, or collective bargaining.
  • Ability to learn machinery-of-government processes and relevant legislation, including the Official Information Act, Privacy Act, and Employment Relations Act.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and confidence engaging stakeholders.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Willingness to follow Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

Salary

The salary range is NZ$74,815 to NZ$82,581 per year, plus KiwiSaver. The final offer will reflect the successful candidate’s skills and experience.
