Job description

About SJ Group

SJ Group is a worldwide urban and infrastructure consultancy with more than 75 years of successful project delivery behind it. The organisation brings together global capability with local insight, and its network of 16,000 client-focused specialists works from 120+ offices across 40+ countries to help shape places that serve present needs and future generations.

About SMEC

SMEC focuses on unlocking people’s potential to think differently about infrastructure and create stronger outcomes for the future. The company is committed to making a positive contribution to people, the environment, clients and communities.

The opportunity

SMEC is hiring a highly motivated and detail-driven Pursuits & Submissions Advisor for its Brisbane team. The role supports opportunities across the ANZ region and beyond in a hybrid, flexible working environment. You will take ownership of the full coordination of high-quality proposals and supporting documentation, ensuring every submission is timely, brand-consistent and professionally presented.

Working closely with internal teams and external partners, you will help shape winning approaches, strengthen relationships and contribute to continuous improvement in a collaborative, fast-moving setting.

Key accountabilities

  • Work actively with pursuit leads to help plan bid strategy, win themes and value propositions.
  • Facilitate bid workshops and storyboarding sessions to develop response structure and key messaging.
  • Oversee the complete coordination of EOIs, proposals and submissions across ANZ and other regions when required.
  • Collect and manage input from technical specialists and stakeholders, keeping everyone aligned to the submission schedule.
  • Maintain and improve core proposal assets such as CVs, project sheets and organisational profile content.
  • Support the ongoing refinement of processes and templates that improve submission efficiency and quality.
  • Assist the broader team to ensure delivery of submissions to a high standard and within deadlines.
  • Develop productive working relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Manage client procurement portals and comply with submission requirements where needed.

About you

You bring a proactive, organised and quality-focused approach, backed by experience in a similar corporate setting. You are comfortable influencing subject matter experts, translating complex information into clear client-facing content and managing several priorities at once. You stay calm under pressure and work well in a team-oriented environment.

Skills and experience

  • A qualification in marketing, business or a related field is preferred, although equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Experience in bid coordination, submissions or marketing is required.
  • Strong capability to prepare high-quality proposals within tight deadlines and while balancing competing demands.
  • Ability to interpret client needs and turn them into persuasive submissions.
  • Excellent writing, editing and narrative-building skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office, particularly Word and PowerPoint.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organisation and time management abilities.
  • Comfort working independently and taking accountability for results.

Benefits and culture

You will join a supportive work-winning team and gain exposure to a broad range of infrastructure pursuits and leaders across the ANZ region. SMEC offers a supportive, flexible workplace that values individual contribution, career development and work-life balance.

The company promotes diversity, inclusion and gender equity, and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds across engineering and technical disciplines. As a family-friendly employer, SMEC provides flexible working arrangements and benefits including 18 weeks of universal paid parental leave. The organisation also supports LGBTI+ inclusion and First Nations representation through professional networks, role models, mentoring and sponsorship opportunities.
