To strengthen its reach in northern and eastern India, Yara acquired Tata Chemicals’ 1.2 MN MT urea plant in Uttar Pradesh, which significantly increased the scale of operations.
Role Overview
This position is responsible for managing welfare-related services across the plant and township, with special attention to sanitation, hygiene, housekeeping, canteen operations, and guest house administration. The role requires close monitoring of cleanliness, supervision of service providers, food safety oversight, statutory compliance, welfare coordination, and support for positive industrial relations in line with applicable legal and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
The role covers sanitation, food hygiene, welfare administration, and health and safety coordination. The officer must ensure that all relevant areas remain clean, compliant, and well maintained, while also working with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to sustain service quality and workplace standards.
Sanitation Management
- Keep toilets, tea points, rest rooms, canteens, guest houses, drinking water points, offices, and shared spaces clean and hygienic.
- Oversee housekeeping activities across both the factory premises and the township.
- Arrange pest control and sanitation work through approved service providers.
- Monitor the collection, segregation, and disposal of waste in line with environmental requirements.
- Carry out routine sanitation checks and drive corrective action wherever gaps are found.
Canteen and Guest House Hygiene / Food Safety
- Supervise canteen and guest house operations to ensure hygienic food preparation and serving.
- Check cleanliness in kitchens, dining spaces, food storage areas, utensils, and drinking water systems.
- Ensure compliance with food safety norms, including FSSAI requirements.
- Track food handling, storage, preparation, and service practices.
- Confirm that staff follow personal hygiene standards and use required protective gear such as gloves, aprons, and hairnets.
- Maintain documentation for food safety audits, pest control, and the health condition of food handlers.
- Work with contractors and vendors on quality, hygiene, staffing, and discipline issues.
- Run awareness and training sessions for canteen and guest house teams on safe food handling and hygiene practices.
Welfare Administration and Housekeeping
- Ensure welfare facilities are maintained in accordance with statutory obligations.
- Inspect washrooms, rest rooms, common areas, and other welfare amenities on a regular basis.
- Coordinate housekeeping plans and review the quality of service delivery.
- Encourage workplace hygiene and employee welfare practices.
Health, Safety, and Hygiene
- Support occupational health, hygiene, and cleanliness standards across the workplace.
- Coordinate with the Safety Department on awareness drives and accident-prevention activities.
- Ensure drinking water stations and sanitation facilities are properly maintained.
- Spot and report sanitation risks, leaks, unsafe conditions, and hygiene-related issues.
- Take part in internal audits, statutory inspections, and external compliance visits.
- Conduct awareness programs on personal hygiene, sanitation, and workplace cleanliness procedures.
Preferred Skills and Competencies
- Working knowledge of industrial sanitation, employee welfare, and labour-related regulations.
- Understanding of Factory Act provisions, OHS standards, and environmental compliance requirements.
- Strong ability to inspect conditions, observe issues, and prepare clear reports.
- Effective verbal and written communication along with good interpersonal skills.
- Capability to coordinate smoothly with multiple departments and vendors.
- Service-oriented and stakeholder-friendly approach.
- Basic awareness of chemical and biological waste handling.
- Comfortable using MS Office and digital reporting systems.
Education and Experience
A two-year full-time Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a recognized institute is required. The preferred background includes a good academic record. Relevant work experience of 2 to 5 years in welfare administration, sanitation, housekeeping, or industrial relations is expected.
Eligibility Criteria
This role follows the applicable statutory rules for Welfare Officer Grade-III. Candidates should be at least 21 years old and not older than 30 years. Proficiency in Hindi written in Devanagari script is required.
