Role overview

The Accounting Assistant / Financial Accountant position supports the day-to-day accounting function, keeps financial records accurate and up to date, and helps prepare reports that align with accounting standards, legal requirements, and company procedures. The role plays an important part in maintaining reliable financial information and supporting effective financial management.

Key duties

  • Enter and record financial transactions accurately.
  • Prepare and post journal entries as required.
  • Maintain the general ledger and support its ongoing accuracy.
  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing work.
  • Carry out bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Track accounts payable and accounts receivable activity.
  • Ensure all accounting records are complete, accurate, and well documented.
  • Help prepare financial statements, management reports, budgets, forecasts, cash flow statements, and variance analysis.
  • Review expenses, check account balances, and investigate differences or irregularities.
  • Provide dependable financial information for operational and strategic decisions.
  • Support internal control practices by following accounting policies, financial procedures, and compliance requirements.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by preparing schedules, organizing backup documents, answering audit queries, and helping implement recommendations.
  • Work with finance, operations, procurement, and other teams to resolve accounting issues and improve reporting timelines.
  • Contribute to process improvements, system upgrades, and workflow automation efforts to improve efficiency and reporting quality.

Required knowledge and capabilities

The role calls for a solid grasp of accounting concepts, bookkeeping, ledger management, financial reporting, reconciliation methods, and statement preparation. Accuracy, compliance awareness, and the ability to maintain orderly records are essential.

Good working knowledge of spreadsheets, accounting platforms, ERP systems, and financial reporting tools is needed. Experience with financial systems, data analysis, and automation tools is considered beneficial.
