About Appinio
Appinio is a global market research business that blends an AI-driven insights platform with hands-on consultancy services. The company helps organizations understand consumer behavior and make more informed decisions. Founded in Hamburg in 2014, Appinio now operates as a remote-first organization with more than 260 team members across 13 countries, serving 2,600+ international clients and delivering research in over 190 markets.
The role
Appinio is hiring a tech-savvy and ambitious Accountant / Bilanzbuchhalter (m/f/d) to strengthen its finance team. In this role, you will help protect the quality of the company’s financial data while contributing to the design of a scalable and increasingly automated accounting setup. Working closely with the Team Lead Accounting, you will help shape a modern global finance function and play an important part in ensuring efficient month-end and year-end closing processes.
The accounting team is described as a small, collaborative group that values pragmatic thinking, automation, and reliable data. The team works with modern tools such as Light, DATEV, and Lucanet, with the goal of making accounting processes more efficient and less manual.
Key responsibilities
- Keep the group’s accounting records accurate, properly documented, and fully compliant.
- Partner with the Team Lead Accounting to support a smooth and timely month-end and year-end close under HGB for the German entity, while also assisting subsidiaries.
- Prepare supporting files, reconciliations, and schedules for annual audits and act as a knowledgeable contact for auditors.
- Help implement and improve the accounting tool stack, especially Light, DATEV, and Lucanet, to support digital and scalable finance operations.
- Review accounting topics with a technical lens, strengthen data quality, and reduce manual work wherever possible.
- Act as a sparring partner for the Team Lead Accounting on accounting, tax, and compliance matters.
- Support technical consolidation and cross-country alignment for subsidiaries in Spain, the UK, the US, and Colombia.
Requirements
- You bring at least 3 years of experience working as an accountant, ideally in a fast-moving environment.
- You have strong knowledge of German accounting and tax rules, especially HGB; experience with IFRS or an advanced accounting qualification is a strong advantage.
- You are motivated to improve processes and build automated systems, not just perform routine accounting work.
- You have experience with modern ERP or accounting software and are comfortable working in a tech-enabled finance setup.
- You have a strong audit-ready mindset and can deliver high-quality work under pressure and tight deadlines.
- You are confident using DATEV, Lucanet, and Google Sheets, and can turn financial data into clear structures.
- You approach problems in a practical, helpful way and enjoy working in a growth-focused environment.
- You have German language skills at C2 level and are fluent in English.
Benefits and perks
- There is no fixed cap on vacation days under the company’s flexibility policy.
- If you are based in the EU, you can work from outside your country of residence for up to 180 days per year.
- You will receive the hardware needed for the job, including a MacBook.
- Employees in Hamburg or Berlin receive a Deutschland ticket or a mobility budget via the NAVIT app for commuting.
- Depending on location, subsidized Urban Sports Club or ClassPass access is available.
- In certain cities, access to co-working spaces is offered.
Additional information
This is a fully remote temporary role and is ideally open to candidates based in Germany, the UK, Portugal, the Netherlands, or Spain. The position reports directly to the Team Lead Accounting.
The application should be submitted in English. Appinio encourages people to apply even if they match only part of the profile, as long as they are genuinely excited about the opportunity. The company is an equal-opportunity employer and considers all applicants regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, or disability status.
