About SonderMind
SonderMind is focused on making therapy easier to access and more effective, with a personalized mental health care model designed to improve outcomes for patients. Its technology helps people locate the right in-network therapist for their needs, and clinicians are supported with tools for clinical documentation, secure telehealth, measurement of outcomes, messaging, and direct booking.
The company emphasizes high-quality care and strong clinical results, while building systems that help clinicians do their best work.
Role Overview
The Account Manager, Payor Partnerships is responsible for handling both new and renegotiated payer contracts within an assigned portfolio. The role supports growth goals and wider business strategy by driving contracting work from initial strategy through execution and activation.
This position reports to the Director of Payor Contracting and works closely with revenue cycle, credentialing, compliance, legal, finance, and operations teams to make sure agreements are practical, properly implemented, and deliver a positive experience for clients, providers, and internal stakeholders.
The ideal candidate brings strong negotiation ability, a solid grasp of payer contracting, and the capability to turn contract terms into solutions that can scale operationally. Relationship-building, analytical thinking, and a passion for improving access to mental health care are important to success in this role.
What You Will Do
- Negotiate new and existing payer agreements to secure strong reimbursement, terms, and overall positioning that align with company goals.
- Manage the entire contract journey from strategy through signature and activation, while coordinating across revenue cycle, credentialing, compliance, legal, finance, and operations to ensure smooth implementation.
- Develop and sustain executive-level relationships with assigned payers, including regular check-ins and Joint Operating Committees to stay ahead of changes, opportunities, and strategic plans.
- Review contract language and reimbursement models independently and suggest changes that support business goals and reduce risk.
- Monitor and share updates on contract status, renewal schedules, negotiated terms, and key performance indicators.
- Contribute to additional business priorities as needed, including some travel for industry and payer conferences or in-person meetings.
What Success Looks Like
- Contracts are completed successfully and meet financial, operational, and client experience objectives.
- Partnerships with payer contacts and internal teams are strong, productive, and collaborative.
- Contract progress, risks, and outcomes are communicated clearly and on time.
- Complex contracting or operational issues are identified early and resolved effectively.
- Work priorities are managed independently while still contributing to team goals in a fast-moving environment.
Candidate Profile
This is a remote role with some travel required to the corporate office, payer visits, conferences, and other meetings. The position also calls for the ability to work independently, handle multiple priorities, and stay effective under deadlines.
The company is also looking for someone who is open to using new tools, including AI, to improve results and work more efficiently.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience negotiating payer and/or provider agreements.
- Working knowledge of managed care rules and health care laws, ideally with exposure to behavioral health.
- Experience with alternative payment structures such as value-based programs, risk arrangements, and case rates.
- Ability to work remotely and travel to the corporate office, payer locations, or conferences as needed.
- Strong written, verbal, analytical, negotiation, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Self-driven, influential, deadline-oriented, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive multitasker who can take initiative and complete work without close supervision.
- Willingness to adopt emerging tools, including AI, to support business outcomes.
Compensation and Benefits
The base salary range for this position is $115,000 to $130,000 per year. Final pay depends on factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, and past performance. This role is also eligible for a 5% variable bonus.
Benefits include flexible hybrid work, at least three weeks of PTO each year, free therapy coverage for eligible employees enrolled in the company medical plan, and medical, dental, and vision coverage with HSA and FSA options. The company provides employer-paid short-term disability, long-term disability, life insurance, and AD&D coverage, plus salary replacement for up to seven weeks of short-term disability leave after the waiting period.
Additional benefits include eight weeks of paid parental leave, a 401(k) plan with 100% matching that immediately vests on contributions up to 4% of base pay, travel to Denver once a year for the annual Shift gathering, 14 company holidays, a shutdown between Christmas and New Year’s, and supplemental life insurance, pet insurance, commuter benefits, and more.
