Job description

About SonderMind

SonderMind is focused on making therapy more accessible through personalized mental healthcare that delivers strong patient outcomes. Its model uses technology to help people find not just any therapist, but an in-network therapist matched to their needs if they choose to use insurance. Clinicians are supported with tools for clinical note-taking, secure telehealth, outcome tracking, messaging, and direct booking so they can provide high-quality care efficiently.

Role Summary

The Account Manager, Payor Partnerships is responsible for leading negotiations on new and renewed payor contracts for an assigned portfolio, helping drive growth and support the company’s strategic goals. Reporting to the Director of Payor Contracting, this role manages contracting from start to finish and partners closely with teams across the business to ensure agreements are workable operationally and create a strong experience for clients, providers, and internal stakeholders.

The position calls for excellent negotiation capability, a solid grasp of payor contracting, and the judgment to convert contract terms into scalable, practical processes. The right candidate will be collaborative, data-minded, relationship-focused, and energized by improving access to mental health care and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Negotiate new and existing payor agreements to secure favorable reimbursement, terms, and overall positioning that align with company goals.
  • Manage the full contract journey from planning through execution and launch, acting as the main coordinator across Revenue Cycle, credentialing, compliance, legal, finance, and operations to ensure effective implementation.
  • Develop and sustain trusted executive-level relationships with assigned payors, including regular check-ins and Joint Operating Committees to stay ahead of contract changes, growth opportunities, and strategic priorities.
  • Review contract language and reimbursement structures independently, then recommend changes that support business objectives and reduce risk.
  • Monitor and share updates on contract progress, renewal dates, negotiated terms, and key performance indicators.
  • Contribute to other business initiatives as needed, including occasional travel for industry and payor conferences or in-person meetings.

What Success Looks Like

  • New and renegotiated contracts are delivered successfully while meeting financial, operational, and client-experience targets.
  • Payor relationships and internal partnerships remain productive and reliable.
  • Contract status, risks, and outcomes are communicated clearly and on time.
  • Complex contracting or operational issues are identified early and resolved proactively.
  • Priorities are managed independently while still supporting broader team goals in a fast-moving environment.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field, along with at least five years of experience negotiating payor and/or provider agreements. Familiarity with managed care rules and health care regulations, preferably within behavioral health, is expected.

Experience with alternative payment structures such as value-based programs, risk arrangements, and case rates is important. The role also requires the ability to work remotely while traveling as needed to the corporate office, payor sites, or conferences.

Strong written, verbal, analytical, negotiation, and interpersonal skills are essential. The ideal person is self-directed, motivated, deadline-driven, able to juggle multiple priorities, and comfortable using new tools, including AI, to improve results.

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary for this position is $115,000 to $130,000 per year. Final pay will depend on factors such as experience, skills, education, and prior performance. This role is also eligible for a 5% variable bonus.

  • Flexible hybrid work environment
  • At least three weeks of PTO each year
  • Free therapy coverage benefits when enrolled in the medical plan
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage, including HSA options with a $1,100 company contribution and FSA options
  • Employer-paid short-term disability, long-term disability, life insurance, and AD&D coverage
  • Salary top-up for up to seven weeks of short-term disability leave after the waiting period
  • Eight weeks of paid parental leave, with a possible total of 8 to 16 weeks if STD also applies
  • 401(k) plan with 100% match on up to 4% of base salary, vesting immediately
  • Annual travel to Denver once per year for the Shift gathering
  • 14 company holidays
  • Company shutdown between Christmas and New Year
  • Additional perks such as supplemental life insurance, pet insurance, commuter benefits, and more
