Job description

Role overview

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is hiring an Account Executive for its Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) Public Sector business in Canberra. The position is centered on expanding cloud usage and driving sales growth across a defined portfolio of government customers. In this role, you will deepen client relationships, manage a healthy opportunity pipeline, and progress deals that enable public sector organisations to use cloud technology to improve services for citizens.

You will be part of a collaborative environment and work closely with Solutions Architects, Partner Managers, Technical Account Managers, and Professional Services teams to shape account strategy and deliver customer proposals. This opportunity suits an ambitious sales professional who wants to build a career in cloud technology sales focused on the public sector.

What you'll do

  • Own and grow a set of public sector accounts with a focus on revenue expansion and broader cloud adoption.
  • Develop trusted relationships with stakeholders up to director level across assigned government agencies.
  • Create account plans with clear priorities, timelines, and measurable success indicators.
  • Maintain a strong sales funnel from lead qualification through to deal closure.
  • Partner with technical and partner teams to prepare persuasive customer solutions and proposals.
  • Uncover client pain points and explain how AWS capabilities can solve those challenges.
  • Respond to government procurement requests such as RFPs and RFTs and support proposal coordination.
  • Share pipeline status, forecasts, and account updates with sales leadership on a regular basis.
  • Represent AWS at customer meetings, industry events, and partner engagements.
  • Build expertise in public sector topics such as digital transformation, cybersecurity, analytics, and AI/ML.
  • Deliver against quarterly and annual revenue commitments.

Qualifications and experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in technology sales, business development, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated success in consistently surpassing sales targets.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation capabilities.
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving, evolving, or international environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification.
  • Background in managing a sales pipeline and closing enterprise or public sector deals.
  • Advantageous: experience selling technology platforms and familiarity with government IT, data centres, cloud services, and cloud adoption.
  • Advantageous: exposure to AWS or similar cloud offerings.
  • Advantageous: understanding of cloud models such as IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS, or broader technology-as-a-service concepts.
  • Advantageous: knowledge of government procurement mechanisms including panels, standing offers, and tender responses.
  • Advantageous: familiarity with the Australian or New Zealand government landscape.
  • Advantageous: awareness of security frameworks used in government, such as IRAP and PROTECTED.
  • Advantageous: an Australian government security clearance at Baseline or NV1 level, or the ability to obtain one.
