Role Overview

The Accident Investigation Engineer will examine road traffic incidents within the project network, determine the underlying causes, evaluate infrastructure and operational contributors, and suggest corrective as well as preventive actions to improve road safety and reduce both the number and severity of accidents.

This position also supports road safety initiatives and helps ensure that all activities align with the client’s safety expectations, accepted international standards, and contractual O&M responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Accident Investigation

• Respond to accident sites when needed and carry out thorough investigations within the project’s road network.
• Gather and review evidence such as police records, CCTV recordings, site observations, and witness accounts.
• Determine root causes and contributing elements, including roadway layout, signage, pavement quality, lighting, traffic devices, and driver actions.
• Draft detailed investigation reports with conclusions, visuals/diagrams, and recommended actions.

Road Safety Analysis

• Study crash patterns and identify high-risk locations across the network.
• Build and update an accident database and produce statistical analysis summaries.
• Perform road safety inspections and audits to uncover potential hazards.
• Propose engineering countermeasures such as improved signs and markings, traffic calming, junction upgrades, lighting improvements, barriers, and speed control measures.

Coordination with Authorities

• Work with traffic police, road agencies, and emergency responders during accident investigations.
• Assist with client reporting needs related to road safety performance.
• Take part in road safety committees and technical stakeholder meetings.

Preventive Safety Measures

• Pinpoint high-risk or black-spot locations and recommend mitigation steps.
• Track how effective the implemented safety improvements are over time.
• Contribute to the creation of road safety improvement programs across the network.

Documentation and Reporting

• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for the client and project leadership.
• Keep organized records of accident investigations and corrective measures.
• Ensure safety-related contractual KPIs are met and monitored.

Qualifications and Experience

• A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or Traffic Engineering is required.
• Professional certification in Road Safety Engineering or Traffic Safety is considered an advantage.
• Applicants should have 5 to 10 years of experience in road safety, traffic engineering, or highway operations and maintenance.
• Hands-on exposure to accident investigation and road safety audits is needed.
• Experience with highway authorities or large road networks is preferred.
• Background in data analysis and accident reporting systems is expected.
