About the Role
Henrico Education Foundation runs after-school enrichment programs for elementary students at selected schools in Henrico County, supporting children in the school setting they already attend. The program is designed to help students grow through experiences that strengthen their physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development.
We are seeking enthusiastic Academic Teachers to guide a small group of children through engaging activities while building supportive, caring relationships.
Job Summary
This position involves teaching and facilitating a range of activities for elementary-age participants, with a focus on K-5 English/Language Arts and Math. The role centers on creating a positive learning environment and maintaining strong, nurturing connections with children.
Key Duties
- Deliver lesson plans in a way that matches children’s developmental needs and supports their physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth.
- Create a setting that encourages curiosity, active play, and a welcoming atmosphere.
- Help students with homework and promote steady academic improvement.
- Keep all assigned children involved and highly engaged during lessons and activities.
- Build appropriate, supportive relationships with children and their families to better understand individual needs.
- Maintain the safety of the children in the assigned group at all times.
- Provide close, active supervision and remain alert throughout the program.
- Share regular updates with Center Directors and the Director of Curriculum about students’ academic progress and behavior.
- Follow all Out of School Time Program policies and procedures.
Requirements
Candidates must meet the Program Leader standards under Virginia Regulations for Licensed Child Day Centers.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Must have an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree.
- Should have at least 6 months of experience working in program settings with children.
- Must be dependable, professional, and serve as a positive role model.
- Should demonstrate strong leadership skills and knowledge of youth development approaches.
- Must work well as part of a team and communicate clearly in both spoken and written English.
- Must be able to plan, organize, lead, and take part in activities in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
Work Schedule
This is a part-time role with approximately 10 to 15 hours per week. Weekends are not required.
Compensation
The hourly pay range is $20 to $26.
