About the Role

Henrico Education Foundation is seeking an enthusiastic Academic Teacher to support elementary school students in an after-school enrichment setting. The program serves children enrolled in select Henrico County schools and is designed to strengthen their physical, social, emotional, and academic growth through meaningful activities.

In this position, you will guide a consistent group of children, build caring relationships, and deliver engaging learning experiences that support K-5 English/Language Arts and Math.

What You Will Do

  • Lead age-appropriate lesson plans that address the individual developmental, academic, social, and emotional needs of the children in your group.
  • Create a welcoming environment that encourages curiosity, positive interaction, and active participation.
  • Support students with homework and help reinforce academic progress.
  • Keep every assigned child involved in activities and lessons to maintain strong engagement.
  • Develop positive connections with children and their families to better understand each child’s needs.
  • Maintain a safe environment for all children in your assigned group.
  • Provide attentive, active supervision at all times.
  • Share student academic and behavior updates regularly with the Center Directors and Director of Curriculum.
  • Follow all Out of School Time Program policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • You must meet the Program Leader standards set out in Virginia Regulations for Licensed Child Day Centers.
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years old.
  • An associate degree or bachelor’s degree is required.
  • At least six months of experience working with children in a program setting is needed.
  • Candidates should be dependable, professional, and able to serve as a positive role model.
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills are expected, including both verbal and written communication.
  • Knowledge of youth development approaches that support academic and social growth is important.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This role involves leading, organizing, and participating in activities in both indoor and outdoor settings. You should be prepared to lift up to 45 pounds and communicate effectively in both spoken and written form. Reasonable accommodation may be available for qualified individuals with disabilities.

Benefits and Schedule

  • Work schedule is 10 to 15 hours each week.
  • No weekend work is required.
  • Pay is offered at $20 to $26 per hour.
