Job description
Role overview
AirClad is looking for a hands-on 3D Technical Designer who can turn complex engineering CAD into practical, easy-to-follow build and assembly documentation. The focus of this role is not product design from scratch, but translating existing Rhino and SolidWorks models into clear manuals and visual step-by-step instructions that installation teams can use confidently on site.
This is a good fit for someone who enjoys breaking down complicated structures into simple, logical sequences and creating visual guides that feel straightforward and intuitive.
What you will do
- Convert raw 3D models into exploded views, sequential assembly diagrams, and annotated part illustrations.
- Break down technical assemblies into clear, practical steps that can be followed by installers with different levels of experience.
- Keep documentation style, layout, and part numbering uniform across the full manual library.
- Refresh and revise manuals quickly whenever products are updated or changed.
- Work closely with engineering and technical support teams to confirm that the build sequence is accurate and workable in real conditions.
Skills and experience needed
- Strong working knowledge of Rhino for 3D modelling and visualisation.
- Ability to read, navigate, and extract information from SolidWorks assemblies.
- A practical understanding of how physical components fit together outside the screen.
- Good visual judgement, with the ability to use perspective, arrows, and minimal text to explain each step clearly.
- Attention to detail and the ability to spot small documentation or labelling errors.
- Self-management skills for remote work.
- Clear written English for labels, notes, and callouts.
Nice-to-have experience
- Familiarity with manual design tools such as Adobe InDesign.
- Background in modular systems, temporary structures, events, scaffolding, or tensile fabrics.
- Previous experience producing assembly guides for manufacturing or construction.
Working arrangements
The position can be remote or office-based, with a strong preference for candidates in North England/Cumbria, UK or Antwerp, Belgium. The role is flexible, with both part-time and full-time setups open. Working hours will be agreed in line with the arrangement chosen.
Eligibility
Applicants must be based in the UK or Belgium, with particular preference for candidates in Cumbria/North England or Antwerp.
How to apply
Applicants should send their CV and examples of 3D or technical illustration work, along with a short and honest note describing their comfort level and past experience using Rhino and SolidWorks.
