Role summary
The First Cook is an important part of the culinary team and focuses on delivering dinner service each day. In partnership with culinary leadership, this role is responsible for preparing the featured proteins for dinner and helping maintain high quality standards. As a senior production team member, the First Cook also provides leadership support and helps oversee day-to-day kitchen activity.
Camp setting and amenities
This position is based in a remote camp environment. The following supports are provided on site:
- All meals and accommodation
- Transportation to and from the site from designated locations in Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Dryden, and nearby areas
- Private room with cable television
- Wi-Fi access
- Laundry facilities with detergent provided
- Gym access and common areas
Key duties
- Prepare, process, and serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks on time while following approved methods and service standards
- Cook meals based on client schedules and within the approved menu and budget framework
- Produce sufficient quantities of each menu item in line with established production targets
- Time food preparation to keep items close to serving time and supervise portioning on the service line so guests receive the correct amounts
- Coordinate kitchen team members involved in meal preparation and service
- Store food correctly and maintain proper rotation of supplies
Qualifications and requirements
The ideal candidate will bring prior cooking experience, a valid Food Safe certificate, and a strong commitment to cleanliness and organization in the kitchen. Experience with large-scale camp cooking, inventory preparation, and team supervision would be considered beneficial. A Red Seal credential or another relevant certification is also an advantage. All candidates must be able to pass a criminal background check and meet the physical requirements of the role.

Schedule and pay
This role follows a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation. Work may include nights, weekdays, weekends, and public holidays. The starting wage is $22.48 per hour.
