Youth Residential Care Worker - Hume/Shepparton: Expression of Interest 2026

Opportunity Overview

We invite passionate individuals to express their interest in becoming Youth Residential Care Workers within the Hume region, specifically Shepparton on Yorta Yorta Country. These roles offer both Fixed Term and Ongoing opportunities with various rosters available ranging from 46 to 70 hours fortnightly. Base salaries range from $68,000 to $76,000 annually on a pro-rata basis, dependent on qualifications and experience. Benefits include salary packaging, superannuation, and penalty rates.

Work Schedule Example

A sample of a part-time roster involves 47.5 hours per fortnight across two weeks, with shifts varying between morning, afternoon, and evening, including some days off.

Role Responsibilities

• Collaborate within a dedicated team to provide therapeutic care of the highest quality.
• Deliver current, evidence-based therapeutic interventions and adhere to program guidelines to ensure child safety and optimal care standards.
• Act as a positive role model by supporting young people in their educational, social, and recreational activities while promoting their development towards independence.
• Maintain a safe and nurturing home environment including performing household duties and preparing nutritious meals.

Required Qualifications and Attributes

• Possess a strong ability to work within a team, engaging constructively with multiple stakeholders to achieve youth-centered outcomes.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a focus on respectful relationship building and maintaining professional boundaries.
• Adaptable and flexible mindset, capable of handling unexpected changes, multitasking efficiently, and approaching tasks creatively and without judgment.
• Hold a valid driver's license (minimum green P’s), as transporting young people is sometimes required.
• Possess a minimum Certificate IV in Child, Youth & Family Intervention or an equivalent qualification. Mandatory upskilling units required by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing must be completed within six months of employment to continue in the role.
