Welder/Fabricator

Position Summary

The Welder/Fabricator is responsible for joining and shaping metal materials, primarily welding metal components together with precision and adherence to industry standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Execute welding tasks using several methods including Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW), and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW or stick welding).
• Interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and detailed engineering drawings accurately to ensure correct fabrication.
• Cut, form, and assemble metal parts to develop structures or finished products.
• Create layouts for secondary steel parts and precise hole drilling.
• Tack weld secondary steel parts to main structural members, and complete welding of all secondary components as necessary.
• Use grinding and wire wheeling tools to finish steel components.
• Perform additional assigned tasks as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent educational credential.
• Demonstrated welding experience in a manufacturing or comparable setting.
• Proficiency with GMAW, FCAW, and SMAW welding procedures.
• Capability to obtain required welding certifications.
• Work compliant with American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) standards.
• Skilled in blueprint reading and interpreting welding symbols.
• Experienced in the operation of overhead cranes and rigging techniques.
• Strong attention to detail and precision in executing welding tasks.
• Physical capacity to engage in manual labor-intensive activities.
• Additional welding certifications considered advantageous.

Work Environment and Hours

The role operates at the Firelands Fabrication facility in New London, OH, a modern manufacturing site equipped with current machinery and welding tools. Standard working hours typically span four 10-hour days from approximately 6:00am to 4:30pm, with mandatory overtime on occasion.
