Role overview
This position sits within the Technology team at NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi in Wellington and offers a varied mix of frontline support, administration, process improvement, and service automation work. The role goes beyond standard level 1 and 2 support and includes helping to shape a more efficient support service for the future.
You will be part of a fast-moving IT Service Desk environment where strong relationship management matters, especially as the team continues to adopt Agile ways of working. The role involves working with colleagues across Technology and providing support that can extend through to senior leadership and Board level.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver prompt, professional, and high-quality technical support by phone, Microsoft Teams, and in person.
- Help diagnose and resolve end-user hardware issues.
- Log, track, and manage requests and incidents in line with service and operational targets.
- Contribute to support documentation and ongoing service improvement initiatives.
- Partner with other technical teams to ensure users receive a seamless support experience.
What you need to bring
The ideal candidate will be a confident communicator who can translate technical information into clear, simple language for non-technical audiences. You should be comfortable working across all levels of the organisation and able to stay steady in a busy support setting.
Experience in a service desk role is important, along with practical knowledge of IT diagnostics, troubleshooting, and incident management. You will also need strong customer service capability, relationship-building skills, and a self-motivated, resilient working style.
Hands-on experience with Office 365 and ServiceNow, or a similar ticketing platform, is expected. In addition, you should be open to building knowledge of Te Ao Māori, tikanga, and Te Reo Māori, and have awareness of te Tiriti o Waitangi and its relevance in the public sector.
