Technical Program Manager - Vehicle Assembly

Overview

Tesla is recruiting a Technical Program Manager to join the Vehicle Assembly team, which is responsible for engineering and constructing vehicle assembly machinery at Tesla’s manufacturing plants. This role involves overseeing technical projects from inception to production, especially focusing on launching new manufacturing lines across various assembly shops worldwide for both new and existing vehicle models.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish program objectives and align strategies within manufacturing organizations, taking full ownership from project conception through validation to production execution.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams—including project, industrial, design, controls, and software—to guide projects through concept, prototyping, engineering design, system integration, and testing phases.
• Lead the definition of product requirements and manufacturing solutions, working with internal groups such as infrastructure, logistics, controls, software, and manufacturing engineering to ensure project success.
• Set targets, monitor deliverables, assess risks, and implement mitigation strategies at all project stages.
• Manage and deliver multiple programs/projects simultaneously, and contribute to developing supporting processes and systems to enhance team effectiveness.
• Identify resource needs and address any deficiencies throughout project lifecycles.
• Prepare and present comprehensive project reports detailing status, risks, mitigation plans, and opportunities to Tesla leadership and cross-functional teams, while managing program milestone roadmaps.

Candidate Profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required.
• Proven experience in technical program or project management, handling multiple medium to large capital equipment projects valued between $1 million and $25 million+.
• Skilled in creating and adapting processes and methodologies tailored to specific engineering workflows.
• Solid technical knowledge of manufacturing operations spanning low, medium, and high volume production environments.
• Familiarity with JIRA and various continuous integration workflows is advantageous.
