Company Overview

Ghost is a cutting-edge inventory distribution platform catering to modern retail. Collaborating with leading global brands, Ghost enables precise control over inventory management and sales routing worldwide. The company, supported by prominent venture capitalists including L Catterton and Union Square Ventures, operates from its offices in Los Angeles and New York.

Role Summary

The Staff Accountant will join Ghost’s Finance & Accounting team during an important growth phase. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, the individual will manage daily accounting activities for a fast-paced, inventory-driven marketplace. Key tasks include handling accounts receivable/payable, bank reconciliations, closing monthly accounts, and assisting with inventory accounting. This role offers substantial responsibility and ownership from the start, contributing to the development of accounting structures, preparing for the company’s inaugural financial audit, and expanding reporting capabilities.

Key Duties

  • Manage full-cycle invoice processing for clients and suppliers, ensuring thorough supporting documentation in the invoice system.
  • Oversee accounts receivable aging reports and collection efforts, resolving issues directly and escalating complex cases appropriately.
  • Reconcile sales channels such as Shopify, TikTok Shop, Whatnot, and StockX, verifying accuracy of sales, fees, refunds, chargebacks, and deposits, and collaborate with internal teams to address discrepancies.
  • Control the entire accounts payable process: logging vendor bills into the ERP, verifying documentation, and maintaining transaction accuracy.
  • Perform three-way matching (purchase orders, receiving receipts, vendor invoices) to identify and rectify any mismatches before payments are issued.
  • Execute vendor payment cycles following approved disbursement protocols and maintain vendor/customer master data including tax documentation and payment details.
  • Lead month-end closing activities by preparing supporting schedules, monitoring account entries, and facilitating timely financial report completion.
  • Maintain general ledger accuracy by recording and scrutinizing financial transactions.
  • Prepare and post journal entries for both routine and complex accounting matters with proper supporting evidence.
  • Carry out detailed reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, investigating and resolving differences.
  • Regularly perform bank reconciliations and manage outstanding items to ensure up-to-date cash records.
  • Support inventory accounting by accurately recording inventory transactions and reconciling movements between operational systems and general ledger.
  • Conduct physical versus system inventory counts, analyze discrepancies, and suggest corrective actions to senior management.
  • Analyze financial data to detect variances and trends, supporting further examination as needed.
  • Collaborate with other departments to gather accounting data and support reporting requirements.
  • Prepare audit-ready documentation, assist auditors during the company’s initial external financial audit, and respond to audit queries.
  • Help enhance internal controls and accounting policies by identifying system data inconsistencies and recommending improvements.
  • Contribute to management reports and special assignments as directed by senior finance leadership.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or closely related discipline.
  • Minimum of two years hands-on accounting experience involving journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations during month-end close.
  • Proven ability to independently manage accounts receivable/payable or specific month-end closing tasks.
  • Experience with NetSuite accounting software is required.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets, capable of handling large datasets efficiently.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, excellent organization skills, and ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Proficiency in leveraging AI tools daily to speed up reconciliation, analysis, and documentation processes, with a mindset geared toward automating manual tasks.
  • Self-driven with a proactive approach, owning responsibilities fully and presenting solutions when escalating issues.
  • Effective written and verbal communication abilities.

Preferred Extras

  • Current or in-progress CPA certification.
  • Experience in inventory accounting, e-commerce or marketplace environments, particularly with high inventory SKU counts.
  • Familiarity with modern AI-driven accounting platforms like Rillet.
  • Background in public accounting or growth-stage startups.
  • Prior participation in external financial audits preparing workpapers or schedules.

Compensation & Benefits

The position is located in the Los Angeles office with a base salary anticipated between $80,000 and $100,000, complemented by equity depending on experience and qualifications.

  • Medical, vision, and dental plans including options with full company coverage.
  • Competitive salary and equity package.
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Unlimited paid time off.

Diversity & Inclusion

Ghost is committed to equal opportunity employment and promotes diversity throughout its workforce. The company does not discriminate based on any legally protected category and fosters an inclusive work culture where all employees can thrive.
