About the Role

Higgins invites applications for a full-time, permanent Site Traffic Management Supervisor (STMS) to join our Traffic Management division located at the Kopu Depot. This role emphasizes hands-on leadership in managing temporary traffic arrangements, ensuring road users remain informed, and that all worksites are safely and properly configured every day.

This position demands collaboration with site teams and public interaction, overseeing traffic control setups, maintaining compliance, and active presence on site. Although the Traffic division is Hamilton-based, the role requires mobility across multiple depots and branch locations throughout the Waikato region.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement, oversee, and dismantle temporary traffic management setups on active roadworks.
  • Prepare, verify, and modify Traffic Management Plans ensuring compliance with required standards.
  • Manage traffic flow using stop/go boards, signs, and traffic signals as necessary.
  • Maintain vigilant site safety oversight, promptly identifying hazards and mitigating risks.
  • Accurately complete and maintain daily records, documentation, and site reporting.
  • Effectively communicate site activities to the public, team members, and supervisors.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Possess a current STMS Category B Practising qualification.
  • Hold NZTA TTM Worker certification and related traffic control training credentials.
  • Minimum of two years’ relevant experience in roading or traffic management environments.
  • Valid Class 2 Driver's License.
  • Construction Safe Tier 1 accreditation is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of safe working methods and regulatory site compliance.
  • Excellent communication skills paired with confidence in engaging with the public.
  • Dependable and calm demeanor with a proactive approach to stepping up when required.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call roster system.
