Short-Form Content Creator (Politics)

About the Role

This contract role is for a short-form video creator who can produce compelling political content for several progressive media brands. The work centers on high-performing vertical videos for Facebook and Instagram, with occasional use of other platforms as needed.

The right candidate follows political news closely, spots stories that are gaining traction, and knows how to shape them into concise, attention-grabbing videos that drive reach, watch time, and engagement.

What You’ll Do

• Produce and edit short political videos, generally between 30 and 60 seconds long.
• Track breaking political stories and online conversations as they develop.
• Turn clips from news coverage, speeches, interviews, and political moments into polished short-form edits.
• Adapt each video to the best practices of the platform it will appear on.
• Deliver new content on a steady daily cadence.
• Keep the tone and editorial approach aligned across multiple progressive media properties.
• Keep up with trends, editing methods, and changes to social platform algorithms.

Requirements

• Solid knowledge of U.S. politics and current affairs.
• Previous experience making short-form content that performs well on social media.
• Hands-on skill with at least one editing tool such as Descript, CapCut, Prime Cut, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or a comparable editor.
• Ability to locate source clips and trending discussions independently and turn them into complete short-form videos.
• Good grasp of retention techniques, pacing, captioning, and narrative structure.
• Experience producing attention-grabbing thumbnails and graphics designed for social platforms.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work to deadlines.
• Comfort working autonomously with little day-to-day oversight.

Preferred Background

• Experience in political media, journalism, or advocacy work.
• Familiarity with progressive politics and related issues.
• Exposure to viral content styles and social media trend behavior.
• Experience publishing content across multiple social channels.
