About the Role
The Shift Lead plays a critical role in managing store operations in the absence of store management. This includes opening and closing duties, cash handling, ensuring the store floor and stock room are ready for business, and overseeing deliveries.
Customer Experience
Delivering a welcoming and helpful atmosphere, the Shift Lead greets customers, assists with product inquiries, and resolves issues to create a pleasant shopping experience. They set the example by demonstrating effective customer service techniques and share these practices with team members.
Operations Responsibilities
- Holding responsibility for store keys to open and close the store when management is unavailable.
- Supporting the ordering process by collaborating with warehouse and vendors, including managing vendor deliveries.
- Accounting for all sales transactions on assigned registers and managing price verifications as needed.
- Assisting management with order evaluations, reverse logistics, merchandise displays, and pricing tasks, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
- Maintaining accurate inventory counts and ensuring proper stock rotation to uphold freshness and inventory precision.
- Supporting bookkeeping duties such as cash reports, counts, ledger maintenance, and bill payments.
- Ensuring the store's cleanliness and orderly condition and reporting repair needs during management absence.
- Ensuring compliance with state and local laws related to regulated merchandise like tobacco and alcohol.
- Conducting team member bag checks before leaving the premises and adhering to company policies.
Training and Communication
- Participating in training sessions and completing professional learning tasks assigned by management.
- Acting as a communication bridge between management and team members, especially when management is not present.
- Reporting disciplinary and customer-related issues promptly to store management.
Requirements
- At least one year of prior leadership, supervisory, or retail key holder experience.
- Proficiency in English reading, writing, and speaking (except Puerto Rico).
- Preferred knowledge includes inventory control and valid pharmacy technician certification/license if applicable.
- Employment consideration for applicants with arrest or conviction records.
