Shift Engineer - DL & CB CP6

Role summary

This position is responsible for keeping shift production activities running efficiently. The role supports the shift superintendent by overseeing crew activities, coordinating routine operations and maintenance, and helping the plant meet output goals while staying aligned with safety and quality expectations.

Key responsibilities

• Help prepare the shift operating plan and carry out day-to-day activities in line with company standards and regulatory requirements.
• Roll out approved initiatives and projects that support future shift operations needs.
• Share suggestions to improve site procedures and technical specifications based on established best practices.
• Track equipment performance, support predictive maintenance, analyze data, and use OMPro to improve site effectiveness.
• Inspect equipment regularly, monitor process values, and work with related teams to speed up maintenance and ensure safe handover and takeover of equipment.
• Oversee safe shutdowns, smooth start-ups, and preservation of equipment and facilities during long shutdown periods.
• Spot operational risks early and take action to reduce hazards, emergency shutdowns, and unsafe conditions.
• Investigate equipment failures, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions that reduce repeat breakdowns.
• Execute PIOs and assist with sample and improvement trials during shifts so work proceeds without interruption.
• Keep accurate shift logs with complete and consistent records of site activities.
• Support the process operations team during plant upsets.
• Understand rotary machine seal systems, including the importance of seal pot level and pressure.
• Understand compressor lubrication systems and the significance of temperature, pressure, and flow parameters.
• Monitor LO/LC valve status and identify field instrument locations.
• Coordinate with other plants to maintain SOCs of raw materials.
• Work with the maintenance department on job planning and execution.
• Distinguish between routine, one-time, and shutdown jobs.
• Carry out risk assessments during handover, takeover, and job execution, and lead toolbox talks before work begins.
• Ensure safety procedures are followed to maintain a safe working environment and prevent incidents.
• Record, report, and analyze near-miss events through root cause analysis to identify patterns and avoid recurrence.
• Support permit-to-work compliance and ensure operations follow applicable rules and site guidelines.
• Understand the API 754 incident classification system and update the portal entries when required.

Education

A diploma or bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering / Technology is required.

Experience

Candidates should have 3 to 7 years of shift engineering experience in site operations, including at least 2 years as a panel executive.
