Job description
Position Overview
This role entails managing telephone communications to ensure patient safety while efficiently scheduling, registering, and supporting various hospital clinics, rehabilitation disciplines, and departments. Collaboration with healthcare team members is essential to meet patient requirements promptly and achieve satisfaction among patients and physicians alike.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to and appropriately direct all incoming telephone inquiries using various directories, ensuring callers receive correct information.
- Handle emergency calls promptly and effectively to maintain patient safety.
- Schedule and preregister patients accurately according to established procedures to facilitate timely appointment setting.
- Update demographic details and complete registration during scheduling to reduce check-in errors and billing issues.
- Manage communications with referring physicians to ensure satisfaction for both hospital specialists and referring parties.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge to support patient and staff inquiries, incoming/outgoing telephone communications, and paging for seamless clinic operations.
- Follow department policies and approved tools to provide consistent call handling and schedule appointments with appropriate providers after triage.
- Exhibit strong customer service, phone etiquette, and productivity to ensure patient and family contentment.
- Encourage teamwork within the immediate and extended work environment to foster positive employee relations.
- Show a commitment to personal and professional development contributing to team growth.
- Perform clerical or administrative responsibilities necessary for program integrity.
Qualifications
- High School diploma, GED, Certificate of Completion, or equivalent required.
- At least three years of experience in a medical office or clinic setting with familiarity with medical terminology.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, coupled with interpersonal and team collaboration abilities.
- Proficiency with computer systems and electronic medical records systems.
- Ability to use general office equipment aided by adequate visual and auditory acuity.
- English language proficiency including reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension.
Compensation and Additional Information
The salary range for this position is $17.97 to $28.74 per hour, with pay commensurate with experience and equity. Employee schedules may be adjusted as necessary by the hospital.
