Senior Project Engineer

Job Overview

This role focuses on applying specialized engineering knowledge and design principles to develop optimized mechanical design concepts and specifications. The position requires balancing factors such as application demands, cost efficiency, weight, performance standards, reliability, durability, manufacturing feasibility, assembly, and maintainability. The candidate will effectively communicate the design capabilities to meet diverse cross-functional requirements, evaluate alternative and competing design concepts, and collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to meet corporate and customer-driven needs, including resolving product issues.

Key Requirements

• 8 to 10 years of experience in project management and commissioning activities.
• Preferable experience managing teams.
• Proficient in Low Voltage Systems, Power Generation, and Power Plant environments.
• Degree holder in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a college or university equivalent.
• Proven record of technical problem solving and making quality decisions.
• Familiarity with MS Office and AutoCAD software.
• Possession of a Project Management Certificate is required.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead negotiations with interdisciplinary and senior design experts to communicate design intents through comprehensive review packages to relevant teams such as Product Preceding Technology, Value Package Introduction, or Change Request teams.
• Guide critical design decisions on component and subsystem selections, optimizing design concepts to meet targeted customer requirements within product initiatives.
• Utilize and lead processes including Critical Design Decisions, System Design Validation, Design Reviews, and employ tools like iDFMEA, DVA, GD&T, CREO, and ANSYS Workbench for subsystem design and refinement.
• Independently manage smaller projects or complex components/systems with higher ambiguity, assuming full accountability within project teams.
• Execute and enhance established and new work processes across functional areas, while broadening product and technical knowledge.
• Supervise technicians and temporary staff, and support knowledge transfer to less experienced engineers through direct or indirect management of small teams.
• Offer technical guidance to influence project directions, acting as a recognized specialist within the team.

Qualifications and Competencies

• Strong skills in integrating cross-functional design inputs and translating stakeholder needs into virtual models and validate them through approved design reviews.
• In-depth mechanical system design expertise, developing innovative and robust designs that fulfill life cycle and customer operating environment requirements.
• Proficiency in mechanical modeling and analysis, including CAD creation per company standards, and performing system-level analyses such as Dimensional Variation and Finite Element Analysis.
• Effective product problem-solving capabilities, emphasizing customer protection, cause identification, and systemic correction to prevent recurrence.
• Experience in system requirements engineering, managing stakeholder needs translation, acceptance criteria definition, requirements lifecycle tracking, and impact assessment of changes.
• Expertise in product platform planning and architecture, creating adaptable platforms aligned with future market plans, performing trade-offs collaboratively with stakeholders.
• Decision-making, result orientation, effective communication, relationship building, resource management, and handling complex information proficiently.
