Senior Geotechnical Engineer

About the Role

Join WSP's Rotorua team as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, playing a pivotal role in delivering geotechnical engineering services across the Bay of Plenty region. You will steer technical leadership, manage projects, and nurture client relations within a diverse array of infrastructure, transportation, land development, and civil engineering initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead geotechnical field investigations, data assessment, structural design analysis, and oversee physical works inspection for infrastructure and civil engineering projects.
• Manage projects end-to-end, ensuring milestones are met, budgets adhered to, and quality standards achieved.
• Assume roles such as Project Manager or Project Director, taking charge of project scope, schedules, financial tracking, reporting, and risk mitigation.
• Develop project briefs, service proposals, costing estimates, and detailed delivery plans.
• Offer expert technical advice and mentorship to project teams and clients.
• Conduct technical reviews and verifications to guarantee top-tier project outcomes.
• Support contract management processes, including tendering documentation, engineering cost estimates, monitoring contracts, and managing subcontractors.
• Foster and maintain effective relationships with clients, contractors, local councils, iwi groups, and other stakeholders.
• Drive business development initiatives by preparing proposals, engaging in market growth activities, and maintaining client engagement.
• Mentor junior engineers, contributing to the advancement and capability building of the geotechnical team.

Candidate Profile

• Holds a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field.
• Brings at least 10 years of professional experience in geotechnical engineering, with a strong focus on seismic and infrastructure projects.
• Is a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or actively pursuing chartership.
• Demonstrates extensive expertise in geotechnical investigation, design, analysis, and construction support.
• Possesses proven capabilities managing projects financially, scheduling effectively, handling risks, and successfully delivering to clients.
• Experienced in proposal preparation, service offers, and client relationship management.
• Shows commercial acumen with a keen ability to identify and pursue business growth opportunities.
• Exhibits excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills to build and maintain trusted client partnerships.
• Holds a current full New Zealand driver's license.
