About Artefacts
Artefacts is developing innovative software tools aimed at robotics developers to enable continuous simulation within their workflow along with seamless integration into continuous integration systems. Their vision is to support the creation of an advanced robotic world fostering efficiency and environmental sustainability, leveraging cutting-edge AI methods to transform robotics software development.
Role Overview
This position entails developing software tools that empower robotics engineers to simulate and validate robotic systems within detailed and contextually rich virtual settings. The role involves close collaboration with robotics engineers who will directly utilize these tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop parametric and procedurally generated 3D environments.
- Incorporate AI technologies to autonomously generate simulations or assets from sources such as text and images.
- Optimize and adjust the simulation engine's performance to support large-scale simulations.
- Design and implement custom sensor models within simulations.
Candidate Profile and Expectations
The ideal candidate demonstrates enthusiasm in 3D realistic environment creation alongside robotics and AI. This role offers extensive learning opportunities and challenges within a startup environment, requiring personal dedication and a collaborative mindset. Candidates should be prepared to engage actively rather than simply execute tasks.
Applicants are encouraged to present tangible evidence of their previous work including open-source contributions, blogs, articles, papers, public coding profiles like GitHub or StackExchange, conference presentations, and notable projects they take pride in.
Technical Skills and Experience
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Rust, Python, or C++.
- Experience either using or developing with 3D engines (e.g., Unreal, Unity, Ogre3D) and physics engines (e.g., Dart, ODE, PhysX).
- Familiarity with parametric 3D modeling tools like Blender nodes or OpenSCAD.
- Knowledge of generative AI applications for 3D/CAD asset creation.
Desirable Additional Skills (Optional)
- Background in robotics or experience with robotics simulators.
- Experience with photogrammetry or Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF).
- Knowledge of cloud or high performance computing platforms.
- Familiarity with geographic information system (GIS) data sources.
- Expertise in building or training generative AI or machine learning models.
- Exposure to 3D printing technologies.
- Experience in user interface and user experience design.
Preferred Candidate Attributes
- Hands-on experience with real-world robotic applications.
- Strong passion for simulation software or creation of interactive virtual environments.
- Advanced degree in relevant fields is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Those requiring a work visa should possess substantial related work experience to facilitate the process.
- Possess advanced analytical thinking skills.
Recruitment Process
The recruitment approach centers on mutual understanding and respect for applicants' time. The initial stage involves submitting an application package including a resume and cover letter highlighting public contributions and motivation. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for one or more primarily online discussions, with potential onsite meetings following. The decision-making process aims to be prompt, possibly requiring references.
Working Conditions and Team Culture
- The collaborative environment is dynamic, evolving with team growth and adapting working arrangements as needed.
- Open questioning and inclusive culture are strongly encouraged.
- Emphasis on personal development within a transparent salary structure with no bonus schemes.
- Company offices are modern and conveniently located near Shinjuku station, with flexible work modes including remote, office, or hybrid as preferred.
- Open source contribution is embraced when appropriate.
- Support for medical checkups is provided in Tokyo.
- Typically, engagements begin with a three-month contract and can be full or part time.
- The team primarily operates remotely, favoring candidates located within or near the JST timezone, especially those in Japan familiar with hardware.
