About the Role
The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology invites applications for a Research Communications Officer. This position is based at the Rotunda Hospital and involves supporting both the clinical project coordination and communications teams. The contract is for a specified term of up to 1 year and 4 months. The successful candidate will work primarily on a workshop series titled "Debunking the Myths-The Science behind Our Sexual Health," targeting teenage students. This initiative delivers engaging, medically-approved sexual health education through interactive workshops facilitated by medical and research experts.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and manage workshop logistics across online, virtual, and hybrid formats.
- Create and update website content, including writing and selecting visuals.
- Edit video materials related to offline project components.
- Develop and oversee organic social media content and paid advertising campaigns.
- Compose and disseminate press releases.
- Collaborate with department members and relevant stakeholders to build communications strategies and materials.
- Maintain professional communications with internal and external contacts.
- Perform additional operational tasks as assigned by the Research Program Manager.
Qualifications and Experience
- A third-level degree in science, healthcare, or media communications is required.
- Experience in communications, content creation, engagement, or administration is essential.
- Demonstrated ability with digital and print media creation tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar.
- A strong interest and dedication to promoting evidence-based sexual health information.
- Excellent verbal and written communication capabilities.
- Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Effective prioritization and management of competing tasks and projects.
- Capacity to work autonomously and collaboratively within team environments.
- Adaptability, initiative, and willingness to contribute across diverse projects.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in communicating scientific or healthcare information.
- Familiarity with Illustrator and video editing software considered a plus.
- Awareness and savvy in social media usage.
- Commitment to continuous personal and professional development.
Additional Information
The salary is in line with Research Assistant Point 11 on the IUA Scales and will reflect the candidate's experience. The closing date for applications is 5th August 2026.
