Role overview

Village Media is looking for a versatile journalist to join its Niagara Falls newsroom. The organization is an independent, digital-first network of local news outlets operating in 27 cities across Ontario. The core goal of the newsroom is to keep local audiences informed about what is happening now and why it matters, with a strong emphasis on accuracy, urgency, and public-interest reporting.

This role is comparable to a daily newspaper beat, but in a digital format and with a strong on-the-ground presence in the community.

• Transit and infrastructure

What you will do

The reporter will be expected to move quickly from story to story, identify what readers need to know today, and produce clear, accurate reporting under deadline pressure. The job also involves building and maintaining a strong network of community contacts and sources, asking direct questions when needed, and contributing to coverage that is fair, transparent, and trustworthy.

Qualifications and experience

Candidates should bring proven experience covering breaking news and feature-style stories across community issues. Strong news judgment, the ability to handle multiple priorities, and comfort in a fast-paced newsroom are important. The role also calls for excellent writing and editing ability, solid knowledge of CP Style, and strong photo and video capabilities. Familiarity with the Niagara Region is required, and the successful applicant must live in or near Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Additional information

Salary range: $48,000 to $55,000 per year.
