R&D Intern – Water Quality Analysis

About the Role

This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in water quality analysis within a laboratory setting. The intern will contribute to in-house water and wastewater testing by utilizing analytical instruments and employing wet chemistry techniques. This role is designed to provide exposure to analytical research, the development and validation of new methods, and the enhancement of existing testing procedures. You will also become familiar with established testing standards like EPA, APHA, and USEPA methods.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory analyses using advanced analytical instruments, including auto-titrators, ion chromatography (IC), inductively coupled plasma (ICP), and total organic carbon (TOC) analyzers.
• Execute wet chemistry procedures such as filtration, sample digestion, and spectrophotometric analyses, including using equipment like the Hach spectrometer.
• Ensure the accuracy and reliability of all test results through diligent instrument calibration and adherence to quality control protocols.
• Maintain consistent application of testing methodologies and ensure the punctual delivery of analytical outcomes.
• Collaborate effectively with laboratory researchers regarding sample submissions, provide updates on testing progress, and address technical inquiries.
• Meticulously maintain laboratory documentation, encompassing instrument usage logs, calibration records, chemical inventories, and comprehensive sample tracking.

Requirements

• Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related scientific field.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently, work autonomously, and meet demanding deadlines.
• Prior hands-on experience with wet chemistry techniques or analytical instrumentation is considered a significant advantage.
• Familiarity with water analysis, wastewater treatment processes, or technical research documentation is beneficial.
• A proactive approach to teamwork and strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
• Proficiency in both written and spoken English.
