About the Role
Join an elite team pioneering sensing and AI systems for autonomous biomanufacturing, including real-time electrochemical biosensors, AI-driven process control, and advanced bioreactor platforms. Collaborating with leading partners in sensing, computing, and industrial automation, this role involves hands-on creation rather than oversight, emphasizing personal craftsmanship at the highest standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical components and assemblies through advanced CAD software.
- Construct and iteratively refine physical prototypes using machining, 3D printing, and various fabrication techniques.
- Evaluate prototypes for size, functionality, and durability, making iterative improvements based on testing.
- Choose materials suitable for bioprocess environments, considering biocompatibility, sterilization, and chemical resistance.
- Facilitate integration of sensors and electronics into mechanical housings and assembly designs.
- Work closely with electrochemistry and electronics teams to optimize design trade-offs between form and function.
- Maintain thorough design documentation and version control to track build iterations.
- Support the process of transitioning prototypes into manufacturable products.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven hands-on experience with prototyping, including proficiency in CAD software like SolidWorks or Fusion 360, machining, and 3D printing.
- Knowledge of design principles focusing on manufacturability.
- Comfort working directly in shop or laboratory environments daily.
- Strong problem-solving aptitude with a keen focus on rapid building and testing cycles.
Preferred Skills
- Background in fluidics or bioprocessing hardware design.
- Experience designing equipment for regulatory or medical device contexts.
- Familiarity with designing for hazardous or biosafety-compliant environments.
