About the Company
Our client is a prominent Irish engineering and project delivery firm, specialising in renewable energy, decarbonisation, electrical infrastructure, and sustainable construction. They collaborate with leading developers, utilities, and commercial and industrial clients across Ireland to execute complex, high-value infrastructure projects that aid Ireland's transition towards a low-carbon economy.
Role Overview
The Project Director will be tasked with the overall leadership and successful execution of several utility-scale solar photovoltaic projects across Ireland. This position holds responsibility from detailed design and procurement stages through to construction, commissioning, and client handover, ensuring all projects meet safety, quality, budget, and schedule objectives while maintaining outstanding client engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership to multiple concurrent large-scale solar farm projects nationwide.
- Own comprehensive project outcomes encompassing programme management, commercial performance, quality control, and customer satisfaction.
- Formulate and implement effective project delivery strategies across all phases, from design to commissioning.
- Lead, mentor, and develop Project Managers, Site Managers, and engineering teams to ensure consistent delivery quality across locations.
- Manage commercial aspects including project budgets, forecasts, financial outcomes, and risk mitigation in collaboration with Quantity Surveyors.
- Act as the primary client liaison, nurturing long-term relationships with developers, utilities, consultants, and subcontractors while leading executive project meetings and steering committees.
- Oversee contract management ensuring compliance with NEC, FIDIC, bespoke agreements and handling contractual disputes as necessary.
- Champion adherence to health, safety, and environmental legislation and company quality standards while promoting continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain master project schedules, monitor milestones, identify and mitigate programme risks, and manage resource allocation and recovery planning.
- Lead recruitment efforts and conduct performance evaluations fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture within multidisciplinary teams.
- Identify and manage technical, commercial, and operational risks, maintaining risk registers and escalation protocols.
- Supervise construction and commissioning of solar PV farms, battery energy storage systems, high voltage electrical infrastructure, grid connections, and associated civil infrastructure.
Candidate Profile and Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years' experience managing large-scale infrastructure, renewable energy, electrical infrastructure, or major construction projects, with a proven track record in solar project delivery.
- Extensive experience managing sizeable project budgets and leading multidiscipline teams across multiple simultaneous projects.
- Strong expertise in commercial and contractual management including client relationship excellence.
- Demonstrable ability to deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget.
- Educational credentials include a degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field.
- Chartered Engineer status or actively pursuing chartership is preferred.
- Professional certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent add advantage.
- Possession of Safe Pass and a clean full driving license is mandatory.
