Role Overview
This position is for an Operational Support Grade (OSG) at HMP The Verne and HMP Portland, offering a salary of 30,491. As part of His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service, you'll contribute to the smooth functioning of a busy prison environment through diverse tasks.
Responsibilities
- Provide operational support including security checks and searches at entry gates.
- Manage and oversee deliveries and supervise visitors.
- Monitor telephone communications and CCTV systems.
- Perform physical duties such as lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles around prison grounds.
- Drive within prison premises, requiring a valid UK driving license.
- Work varied shifts including weekends and nights to maintain continuous operations.
Requirements
- Possess a full, valid UK driving license.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Good judgement, common sense, and ability to work effectively within a team.
- No formal qualifications are necessary for this role.
Working Conditions and Additional Information
The role typically involves a combination of administrative and physical tasks. While contact with prisoners is generally limited, occasional interactions may occur depending on the facility. This position offers valuable insight into prison operations and potential pathways for advancement, including conversion to Prison Officer roles.
