Physiotherapist

Position Overview

As a Physiotherapist within the Adult Acute Stroke Unit at Health Sciences Centre, you will deliver comprehensive physiotherapy care encompassing client consultations, assessments, diagnosis, treatment planning, execution, and evaluation. You will also develop and implement rehabilitation programs, facilitate discharge planning and follow-up to optimize patient function, prevent disability, and promote overall wellness. Your role includes educating other healthcare workers and educators, supervising and training students in clinical settings, and contributing to professional development of healthcare colleagues. Maintaining professional judgment, accountability, and effective communication will be crucial.

Work Details

• Position is 0.60 FTE with annual base hours of 2015.
• Work shifts include days, evenings, and weekends.
• Daily working hours are 7.75 hours per day.
• The start date is anticipated to be August 26, 2026.
• The position is fully on-site at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Qualifications and Experience

• Must hold an entry-to-practice physiotherapy degree from an accredited Canadian university or equivalent credential if educated internationally.
• Registration on the Active Practice Register of the College of Physiotherapists of Manitoba is mandatory; candidates on the Exam Candidate Register may be considered.
• Written component of the Physiotherapy Competency Exam must be completed; Active Practice Register requirements must be met within two years following the exam.
• Membership in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association is preferred.
• Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification as per employer policy.
• Recent and relevant clinical experience in physiotherapy is preferred.

• Competency in an Indigenous language and knowledge of Indigenous customs and values is advantageous.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

• Capability to stand or walk extensively without breaks.
• Demonstrated safe body mechanics when working with patients.
• Able to safely transfer clients who have limited or no weight-bearing ability.
• Good motor coordination and dexterity for therapeutic procedures.
• Willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, and extended hours.
• Potential exposure to infectious agents, hazardous materials, noise, allergens, and physical and emotional stress.
• Possible interaction with aggressive or agitated patients, visitors, and staff.

Additional Employment Conditions

• A satisfactory Criminal Records Check including Vulnerable Sector Search, Child Abuse Registry, and Adult Abuse Registry Checks are mandatory prior to employment, with all associated costs borne by the candidate.
• A security check must be current within six months prior to the start date.
• Employees may not hold overlapping Shared Health positions exceeding a total of 1.0 FTE.
