Job Summary
As a Pharmacy Technician in a retail setting, you will be essential in supporting pharmacy operations to consistently deliver exceptional patient care by following all procedures and standards. This role involves interacting directly with patients and customers to provide timely, safe, and accurate prescription fulfillment while contributing to a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at every pharmacy workstation to support pharmacists in managing and improving patient health.
- Follow established pharmacy workflows across production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off stations to ensure safe and precise prescription handling.
- Provide empathetic, personalized patient service at various points of contact, including assisting with immunizations and addressing patient concerns or escalating issues when necessary.
- Manage inventory activities such as stocking deliveries, conducting cycle counts, returns-to-stock, and bin inventories as permitted.
- Contribute to team effectiveness through a growth mindset and openness to feedback, seeking opportunities to enhance clinical and technical knowledge.
- Maintain schedule flexibility and support business needs, including travel to different stores within the market as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as company policies to guarantee patient safety, privacy, and controlled substance management.
- When authorized, assist with vaccine-related duties including licensure acquisition, patient education, monitoring reactions, recordkeeping, and supply management.
Required Qualifications
- Meet all state board of pharmacy requirements related to age, education, licensure, and certification applicable to pharmacy practice.
- If state requirements are absent, be at least 16 years old and have or be pursuing a high school diploma or equivalent.
Essential Functions
- Regular attendance including nights and weekends.
- Complete required training within the timeframe established.
- Maintain focus and accuracy in task execution and prescription verification.
- Deliver outstanding customer service with active listening and effective communication skills.
- Handle mathematical calculations for prescription dispensing.
- Resolve patient and colleague concerns professionally.
- Fulfill physical demands such as standing for long periods, lifting up to 20 pounds, and precise manual dexterity.
Preferred Qualifications
- One to three years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
- Background in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service environments.
- Willingness and ability to work across different store locations as business needs require.
Work Hours and Compensation
This is a full-time position with an anticipated weekly schedule of 40 hours, including nights and weekends. The typical hourly wage ranges from $19 to $29, depending on experience, education, and geography.
