Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and apply payroll and benefits policies, relevant legislation, and collective bargaining or Workers Council agreements accurately.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness by verifying payroll processing and reviewing reports before they are distributed.
- Prepare manual payroll cheques adhering to corporate procedures and maintain payroll system accuracy.
- Coordinate with payroll service providers to resolve system issues, perform necessary programming, and updates.
- Manage system administration tasks including setting up new Earnings, Deductions, or Memo codes in payroll software as needed.
- Maintain integrity of payroll data, guaranteeing consistency between local payroll records and Workday systems, covering salaries, remunerations, and employment dates.
- Communicate payroll-related information to employees effectively.
- Support expatriate employee payroll and benefits matters.
- Collaborate with the Finance department to ensure accurate payroll ledger coding and coherence in reporting through systems such as M3.
- Conduct thorough research to provide employees with precise, updated guidance on payroll concerns.
- Process remittances and reconcile various payroll deductions including union fees, charity, statutory contributions, pension funds, third-party deductions, and government filings.
- Complete reconciliation and filing of payroll year-end tax summaries, necessary tax form distributions, health tax returns, and workers' compensation reports on time.
- Handle Employment Insurance Commission documentation for maintaining reduced federal or provincial insurance rates.
- Perform Pension & Insurable Earnings Reviews and assist in related audits.
- Adhere and align payroll processes with the global Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
- Serve as the company's link to governmental tax authorities and third-party agencies regarding deductions and premium payments.
- Participate in testing payroll incidents or enhancements, including calculations regarding earnings, taxes, benefits, and complete detailed reviews of testing outcomes.
- Evaluate and improve current Workday payroll integration and procedures to implement best practices.
