Payment Center Representative I

Job Overview

The Payment Center Representative I position is responsible for handling around one million payment transactions every year, collecting close to $300 million owed to the City of Garland for Electricity, Water, Sewer, and Environmental Waste services. This role prioritizes prompt and precise payment processing alongside delivering courteous and dependable customer support.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive and handle payments including cash, checks, money orders, and electronic payments at walk-up and drive-through utility payment centers.
• Record payments accurately in the cash drawer and enter transaction details into the payment system tied to individual customer accounts.
• Communicate professionally with customers via in-person, telephone, or written correspondence to answer inquiries about utility bills, payments, refunds, and service concerns.
• Investigate and process adjustments for payment errors or refund requests.
• Examine customer account details to determine outstanding payments and initiate service orders for reconnection when necessary.
• Set up customers on bank draft and PAID programs, manage daily ACH payment processing, and compile monthly financial reports.
• Handle mail payments through check scanning, reconcile payment batches, and address any exceptional processing issues.
• Maintain purchasing documentation and place supply orders as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Possession of a High School Diploma or GED.
• No prior work experience necessary.
• Alternatively, an equivalent mix of education and experience that enables successful job performance.

Working Conditions

Work occurs within an office environment largely free from hazardous conditions or unpleasant elements. The role operates on a flexible, rotating shift basis.

Compensation and Schedule

The pay range spans from $13.88 to $17.10 hourly, depending on candidate qualifications and experience. The specific work schedule is to be determined.
