Role overview

Kingston City Council is looking for a Parking Enforcement Officer to help keep public parking areas safe, accessible, and well regulated across the municipality. Based in Cheltenham, this full-time position works on a rotating roster from Monday through Sunday and reports to the Parking Enforcement Coordinator within the Compliance & Amenity Team.

The role is focused on applying parking laws and council rules consistently, supporting fair parking access, improving community safety, and ensuring parking spaces are used efficiently for everyone who needs them. The work is carried out across different locations within the municipality and includes both independent and team-based tasks.

The advertised salary is $76,383 to $81,228 per year, depending on experience, plus superannuation and any relevant weekend penalty rates.

Key duties

  • Carry out both planned and unplanned patrols of parking areas in commercial and residential neighbourhoods.
  • Issue parking infringement notices in line with applicable legislation and council procedures.
  • Keep accurate records and prepare reports relating to compliance activity.
  • Give community members clear, factual guidance about parking rules and requirements.

Skills and experience

  • Strong ability to understand and apply legislation, policies, and procedures in a consistent way.
  • Confident verbal communication for dealing with members of the public.
  • Good written communication for documentation, reporting, and record maintenance.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage time effectively across assigned areas.
  • High attention to detail when assessing and recording compliance issues.
  • Physical capacity for extended walking and outdoor work in changing weather conditions.
  • Current driver’s licence.

Candidate profile

The ideal applicant will reflect Kingston Council’s values: making a difference, showing care and respect, taking pride in work, and working better together.

Applicants who are enthusiastic about the role but do not match every requirement are still encouraged to apply, as the council recognises that varied experience can still lead to strong community outcomes.

How to apply

Interested candidates should submit a resume and a cover letter explaining their experience and how it relates to the role. Applications must be lodged online through the council’s careers portal.

The council does not accept applications or enquiries from recruitment agencies.
