About the Role

The Operational Support Grade (OSG) position is vital to the smooth day-to-day operation of HMP The Verne and HMP Portland. With an annual salary of £30,491, this role, offered by His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service, involves a combination of administrative and physical duties that contribute to maintaining security and operational efficiency within the prison environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform security measures including carrying out searches at the prison entrance.
  • Manage incoming deliveries and supervise the process effectively.
  • Oversee visitor protocols to ensure compliance with prison regulations.
  • Monitor and supervise telephone communications and CCTV footage.
  • Carry out escorting duties by walking prisoners safely across the prison grounds.
  • Execute driving responsibilities which are a crucial aspect of the position; therefore, possession of a valid UK driving license is mandatory.

No formal qualifications are strictly necessary, but the role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and sound judgement.
