Opportunity Overview

Berry Street offers a role in Residential Care and Therapeutic Residential Care (TRC), providing intensive, time-limited support for children or young people in statutory care. This care focuses on addressing the complex effects of abuse, neglect, and family separation by fostering positive, safe, and healing relationships informed by an understanding of trauma, attachment issues, and developmental needs.

Opportunities are available in night residential care roles, including casual, part-time, and full-time positions based in Shepparton within the Hume area on Yorta Yorta Country. Salaries range from $71,000 to $80,000 per annum (pro rata), depending on experience and qualifications, plus salary packaging, superannuation, and applicable penalty rates.

Key Dates

  • Mandatory face-to-face orientation training: Tuesday 27th and Wednesday 28th October
  • In-person attendance is required as part of the application process

Role Responsibilities

The Night Residential Care Worker contributes to the nightly operation of the residence, encompassing:

  • Responding to the emotional and practical needs of young people
  • Supporting the development of personal skills
  • Completing administrative tasks and household duties as needed
  • Working overnight stand-up shifts from 11pm to 7am in 24/7 operational homes

This role demands resilience and compassion due to working with young individuals who have experienced trauma, abuse, and neglect.

On the Job You Will

  • Collaborate effectively with a dedicated team to deliver high-quality therapeutic care
  • Apply best practice therapeutic interventions and program guidelines to ensure child safety and optimal care
  • Act as a positive role model, fostering young people's educational, social, and recreational growth and promoting independence
  • Create a secure and supportive home environment, which includes managing household tasks and preparing nutritious meals

Required Skills and Experience

  • Proven team player able to work with various stakeholders, share ideas constructively, and focus on the best interests of young people
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to listen attentively and dedicate time respectfully, maintaining professional boundaries
  • Flexible and adaptable to change, multitasking efficiently, and approaching tasks creatively without judgment
  • Possession of at least a green P’s driver’s licence to occasionally transport young people
  • Minimum qualification of Certificate IV in Child, Youth & Family Intervention or an equivalent qualification
  • Completion of mandatory upskilling units as required by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing within six months to maintain employment
