About RLO Tankers
RLO Tankers is a well-established shipping firm specializing in the operation of small tankers, primarily focusing on marine fuel logistics. Operating within a globally regulated sector, the company places strong emphasis on compliance, operational excellence, and sustainability. Employees collaborate across various departments and locations to support vessel operations, streamline supply chains, and deliver exceptional service quality. The company provides a professional atmosphere promoting growth in marine operations and procurement expertise.
Role Overview
The Marine Purchaser role is a full-time position based in Central London, responsible for the strategic procurement of goods and services essential for the company’s vessels and maritime functions. Daily duties include identifying potential suppliers, soliciting and assessing quotations, negotiating pricing and contract terms, and issuing purchase orders aligned with company policies and financial guidelines.
This role requires close cooperation with vessel superintendents, technical personnel, and operations teams to ensure that spare parts, consumables, stores, and services are delivered promptly to ships docked at various ports. Monitoring order progress, managing delivery timelines, resolving any issues with suppliers or freight forwarders, and maintaining precise procurement documentation within relevant systems are key components of the position.
Additional responsibilities include supporting cost-control programs, participating in vendor performance evaluations, and contributing to enhancements in purchasing procedures and contract oversight.
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience in marine or technical procurement, ideally within shipping or offshore sectors, with a thorough understanding of vessel operational requirements.
- Proficient negotiation and supplier management skills, with a focus on cost optimization and comprehensive quote evaluation.
- Competence in procurement or ERP software, advanced skills in MS Office—particularly Excel—and fundamental data analysis capabilities for monitoring orders and expenditures.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities to effectively liaise between vessels, internal departments, and external suppliers.
- Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple orders and deadlines in a dynamic international environment.
- Familiarity with maritime industry regulations, classification standards, and logistics operations including shipping, customs, and documentation is advantageous.
- Relevant vocational qualifications or degrees in supply chain, logistics, business, or related disciplines; marine or technical education is preferred.
- Fluency in English (both written and spoken) is essential; knowledge of Dutch and other languages prevalent in major shipping centers is an asset.
