Overview
The Management Support Specialist position involves providing developmental administrative and operational assistance to various departments, programs, or offices within a museum setting, ensuring smooth daily operations and supporting research initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver administrative and operational support for research-related program activities within the assigned unit.
- Assist the Unit Head by preparing reports and consolidating necessary data for program oversight.
- Coordinate and arrange travel for staff members, including preparing travel authorizations, itineraries, and vouchers via the Smithsonian travel system.
- Support procurement processes by helping staff complete required documentation and assembling purchase request packages.
- Compile and organize financial information to aid in budget preparation, spending plan development, and forecasting.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Applicants must undergo and pass a pre-employment background check.
- Completion of a probationary period may be required.
- A bank account is necessary for direct deposit of pay.
- Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service System.
- Applicants should have at least one year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-07 federal level, involving programmatic administrative support, procurement, financial oversight, logistics coordination, property management, and record maintenance.
- Alternatively, candidates with two full years of progressive graduate education relevant to the role may substitute education for experience.
- A combination of education and experience may also satisfy the qualification criteria.
- Resumes should not simply duplicate announcement language but should clearly detail actual, relevant experience. Volunteer and part-time roles are credited proportionally.
