Position Summary
We are currently seeking a meticulous and data-oriented Trucking Logistics Engineer to strategically design and enhance our freight transportation networks on both regional and national levels. This role involves assessing lane efficiency, uncovering opportunities to reduce costs, and leveraging advanced Transportation Management Systems to develop predictive routes. Collaboration with fleet operations, safety, and dispatch teams is key to maximizing asset efficiency and ensuring timely deliveries.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and apply mathematical models to optimize lane profitability, identify backhaul possibilities, and configure multi-stop route schemes.
- Analyze vast freight datasets through SQL, Python, or Excel to detect transit delays and fuel waste.
- Create and sustain interactive dashboards using tools such as Tableau or Power BI to monitor metrics like cost-per-mile, empty miles, and driver efficiency.
- Forecast freight volume trends seasonally and align assets, including tractors, trailers, and drivers, to meet regional demand.
- Manage and serve as primary technical administrator for the company’s Transportation Management System and telematics device systems.
- Utilize Lean Six Sigma techniques to streamline processes and reduce waste within terminal operations, cross-docking, and drop-and-hook activities.
- Liaise with third-party logistics providers and owner-operators to negotiate freight rates and adjust capacity as necessary.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Research, or a related quantitative discipline.
- At least three years experience in transportation engineering, fleet logistics, or freight network analytics.
- Hazmat certification or relevant hazardous materials exposure preferred.
- Proficient with major Transportation Management Systems such as SAP TM, Oracle OTM, or Blue Yonder, as well as routing optimization techniques.
- Advanced expertise in data handling tools including SQL, Python or R programming, and Microsoft Excel (macros, pivot tables).
- Comprehensive knowledge of Department of Transportation Hours of Service regulations, ELD compliance, CSA scoring, and operational constraints within asset-based trucking.
- Demonstrated ability in root-cause troubleshooting, with a history of reducing freight costs per mile or enhancing trailer use.
Preferred Skills
- Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering or Supply Chain Management.
- Transportation and Logistics (CTL) certification or Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt qualifications.
- Experience overseeing private or dedicated commercial trucking fleets.
