About the Role
Dubai Schools Nad Al Sheba is looking for a motivated and highly organized Librarian to join its educational community and nurture a passion for reading, research, and lifelong learning among students and staff. The role emphasizes upholding the school's values and promoting child safety and welfare through excellent library practices and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Incorporate assessment activities to gauge understanding during lessons where suitable.
- Use both formative and summative evaluations to support learning.
- Maintain an inviting, well-ordered, and clean library environment that reflects school ethos and current curricular themes, including displays and seating arrangements.
- Encourage an understanding of the distinction between research and inquiry processes.
- Manage the selection, ordering, processing, and promotion of new library materials.
- Act as a resource for literacy enhancement and support the integration of technology in the curriculum.
- Facilitate access to a variety of information resources by acquiring and organizing diverse materials.
- Engage the school community in building the collection using interactive polls and online suggestion forms.
- Create spaces for media production activities such as podcasting, video creation, and storytelling.
- Apply a consistent, age-appropriate classroom management system.
- Provide flexible scheduling for library sessions, prioritizing classes with greater needs.
- Address diverse student needs, including special educational needs (SEN) and English as a Second Language (ESL) learners.
- Implement evidence-based teaching methodologies.
- Embed technology effectively in all aspects of student learning.
- Model and promote global mindedness within the school community.
- Provide orientation on the use and care of print and digital library resources and equipment.
- Teach students evolving information literacy strategies including usage of digital tools such as tags, hashtags, real-time searches, and traditional databases.
- Provide access to online databases, portals, multimedia resources, and social networking platforms for literacy.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, including delivering lessons in person and virtually when needed.
- Promote enjoyment of reading and literature, including engagement with social book networking sites.
- Utilize teleconferencing tools to connect the library community with authors, experts, and facilitate interactive events.
- Adhere strictly to the school's Safeguarding and Child Protection protocols and immediately report any concerns to designated safeguarding personnel.
Internal and External Collaboration
- Take an active role in unit planning with faculty.
- Supervise library staff and manage library operations including resource cataloguing.
- Work closely and regularly with key stakeholders at the school.
- Maintain and update the school library webpage on the official website.
- Organize after-hours library activities for the school community such as parent-child reading events.
- Join relevant professional library networks as a private member.
Requirements
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree and relevant classroom experience.
- Previous experience in a similar librarian or educational resource role is preferred.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Strong enthusiasm for engaging with students and literacy development.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
