Job Overview
ArraTipp is seeking a Laboratory Technician specialized in Routine Microbiology for a fixed term position based in Nenagh, County Tipperary, Ireland within the Food Ingredients business unit. The role reports directly to the Senior Microbiologist and involves performing microbiological testing, sample collection, and laboratory maintenance to support food safety and quality assurance.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect samples from production plants for microbiological analysis.
- Conduct timely and accurate testing in the microbiology laboratory.
- Ensure correct completion of all documentation in accordance with approved procedures.
- Identify and report any issues, following up to resolution with appropriate management.
- Assist investigation and project teams in resolving quality-related problems.
- Support compliance with internal and external standards such as BRC and HACCP.
- Maintain high standards of laboratory cleanliness and organization.
- Adhere strictly to health and safety policies.
- Provide support to other laboratories as needed, performing additional duties aligned with business requirements.
- Manage shelf-life samples and coordinate samples sent for external testing.
- Update Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and Excel trackers daily.
- Prepare daily summaries of test results and distribute reports to the operations team, highlighting any issues or out-of-specification results.
- Train students assigned to the laboratory.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum qualification of a Diploma in Microbiology or an equivalent discipline.
- Prior experience working in a microbiology laboratory is beneficial but not mandatory.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Highly flexible, self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Knowledge of food handling procedures and chemical safety awareness.
- Excellent teamwork abilities combined with effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Commitment to continuous improvement.
- Proficient computer literacy skills.
- Fluent in English, both verbally and in writing.
