Kairaranga a-Whānau

Position Overview

We are looking for a dedicated Kairaranga a-Whānau to join our team at the Napier site, committed to placing tamariki and rangatahi at the centre of all efforts. This role requires strong expertise in Te Āo Māori and involves providing meaningful support grounded in cultural values and respect.

Key Duties

• Build and nurture strong connections with local Iwi, Marae, and the wider community through effective relationship management.
• Partner closely with Oranga Tamariki Social Workers and Coordinators to identify whānau, hapū, and iwi networks for tamariki and rangatahi.
• Use proficient verbal and written Te Reo Māori communication skills to facilitate engagement.
• Organize and lead hui-a-whānau, especially before Family Group Conferences, ensuring participation is well prepared.
• Encourage tamariki, rangatahi, and whānau to actively take part in all whānau decision-making processes.
• Support whānau in recognizing members who could provide care to tamariki and rangatahi when suitable.
• Contribute to cultural capability development within the site in collaboration with the Site Manager and leadership team.
• Establish and maintain working relationships with tangata whenua and significant cultural group representatives.

Candidate Profile

• Extensive relationship-building skills that facilitate trust and cooperation with local Iwi, Marae, and community groups.
• Strong communication abilities, especially fluency in Te Reo Māori, both spoken and written.
• Experience in negotiation and advocacy at a senior level is advantageous.
• Proven skills in problem-solving and decision-making within a culturally sensitive framework.

Compensation and Benefits

The role offers a progressive step-based salary starting between $90,429 and $100,019 annually, correlated with experience.
