Interaction Designer, Google Maps

Overview

Join Google as an Interaction Designer for Google Maps, where you'll transform complex tasks into user-friendly digital experiences that impact billions worldwide. You'll work collaboratively within a cross-disciplinary UX team alongside Engineering and Product Management to create pioneering product designs using user insights and state-of-the-art technology.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive product experiences from initial concepts through to launch.
• Partner closely with Product Management, Engineering, User Research, Data Science, and Content teams to deliver cohesive solutions.
• Utilize emerging technologies, including AI and new interaction paradigms, to build innovative user interfaces.
• Produce user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and detailed interaction designs that effectively communicate product intent.
• Employ rapid prototyping and iterative testing to learn and refine user experiences efficiently.

Qualifications and Preferences

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience is required.
• Minimum of one year of experience in interaction or UX design for product development.
• Applicants must submit a portfolio, website, or other relevant work link accessible via the resume.
• Preferred candidates have led design projects for at least one year and have hands-on experience with user-centered design methodologies.
• Experience creating prototypes, implementing end-to-end design processes, and working with consumer-facing digital products is highly valued.
• Strong visual design skills and familiarity with generative AI tools are desirable.

About the Team and Mission

You will be part of the Emerging Experiences UX team for Google Maps, innovating on critical user interface surfaces that serve over a billion users monthly. This team acts like a startup within the Geo Consumer UX group, embracing rapid innovation and cutting-edge technologies such as generative AI to redefine how users interact with the real world through mapping tools.

The Geo team is dedicated to building the most precise, comprehensive mapping products including Maps, Earth, Street View, and the Google Maps Platform, while also enabling developers to enhance their applications with Google's mapping capabilities.

Salary and Benefits

Annualpay ranges from $109,000 to $156,000 in the US, supplemented by a 15% bonus target, equity grants, and comprehensive benefits.
