Head of Drug Release Section

Job Overview

The role involves leading the Drug Release Section to ensure stringent screening and release of imported pharmaceuticals in Qatar. The incumbent will oversee processes guaranteeing the safety, quality, and compliance of medicines, adhering strictly to the Pharmacy Act no. (3) of 1983. This key position safeguards public health by validating the authenticity and effectiveness of imported pharmaceutical products.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and guide the Drug Release team with strategic direction and mentorship to promote accountability and continuous quality improvement.
• Ensure full adherence to national pharmaceutical laws and regulations throughout drug release operations.
• Supervise the release process of all imported medicines, confirming their validity and regulatory compliance.
• Execute thorough inspections to guarantee the quality and safety of incoming pharmaceutical products before market distribution.
• Manage confiscation and legally mandated destruction of medicines failing to meet regulatory standards.
• Keep updated with evolving regulatory frameworks and revise procedures accordingly.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive quality assurance systems to uphold pharmaceutical integrity.
• Coordinate the sampling and laboratory analysis of incoming drugs to verify ingredient accuracy and compliance before release.
• Conduct periodic audits and reviews to ensure ongoing compliance with quality benchmarks.
• Oversee efficient and accurate drug release operations, implementing and optimizing standard procedures.
• Collaborate with authorities on narcotic drug seizures, ensuring actions conform to legal protocols.
• Work closely with internal departments such as regulatory affairs, manufacturing, and quality control to synchronize efforts.
• Act as liaison for external parties including pharmaceutical manufacturers and regulatory agencies concerning drug release issues.
• Identify and implement strategies to enhance productivity, decrease turnaround times, and improve service quality.
• Undertake additional tasks as necessary to fulfill organizational objectives.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences or Pharmacy from a recognized university.
• Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
• License or certification as required by the Healthcare Specialties Department is mandatory for hires starting September 2024.
• At least 10 years of relevant experience, including a minimum of 4 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
