Role overview

This is a practical entry point into mechanical engineering. You will work closely with the Mechanical Manager and experienced tradespeople, applying engineering principles to live industrial issues such as conveyor systems, pumps, water treatment plant upgrades and process line improvements for clients in food manufacturing, mining, water treatment, power and logistics. The role combines workshop exposure, client site visits and design work, with the belief that better engineers come from understanding how equipment is fabricated, installed and maintained.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with the design, drafting and documentation of mechanical parts, assemblies and systems under senior guidance.
• Support site inspections, measure-ups and condition checks to help define project scope and prepare quotations.
• Contribute to scoping, pricing and resourcing for mechanical and process engineering work.
• Work alongside fitters, boilermakers and machinists on the workshop floor to follow projects through fabrication and installation, then apply those practical learnings to future design work.
• Perform calculations, technical research and material selection to support effective and economical engineering outcomes.
• Prepare technical reports, documentation and drawings for both clients and internal teams.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, safety or efficiency and present practical solutions.
• Keep accurate records and comply with the company’s quality and safety systems, including ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 requirements, on every task.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering, either completed or in the final year with completion expected soon.
• Strong understanding of core mechanical engineering concepts, including statics, materials, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and machine design.
• Working knowledge of CAD software and the ability to learn the company’s tools and drafting standards quickly.
• A practical, inquisitive mindset and interest in seeing how equipment is actually built rather than only how it appears on paper.
• Good analytical and problem-solving ability, with sound judgement about when to seek support.
• Clear written and spoken communication skills, with confidence working with tradespeople, engineers and clients.
• Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel to client locations across Brisbane and other areas as needed.
• Full working rights in Australia.

Development path

During the first 12 to 24 months, you will rotate through the mechanical, process engineering and projects teams to gain a broad understanding of delivery from quotation through to completion. As your technical judgement and ownership develop, there is a pathway toward a Design Engineer or Project Engineer position, with room to shape your specialisation as the company grows.
