Job description
Position Overview
We are offering an on-site General Building Operative position at HMP Whatton with a focus on maintaining safe and compliant prison facilities. This full-time role involves working 39 hours per week, distributed over 7 days, including a weekend shift pattern on a rota basis where you will work 1 in 3 weekends. A 15% additional allowance on the basic salary is provided for weekend shifts.
The salary for this role is £28,792 per annum.
Key Duties
- Carry out general maintenance tasks to support the trades team on site.
- Assist in a professional manner for all support requests, including escorting contractors when required.
- Perform DIY-related work such as decorating, hanging notice boards, building furniture, and repairing items throughout the prison.
- Inspect appliances, fittings, and the general environment to ensure everything operates correctly and promptly report any defects to the Team Leader.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards, including litter picking and ground landscaping as needed.
- Undertake all other facilities management tasks as directed by the team manager.
- Support local and business zero carbon initiatives, contributing strategically to sustainability goals as applicable.
- Ensure health and safety standards are maintained across the contract.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proven background in DIY and general building maintenance.
- Holder of a relevant CITB certification or its equivalent.
- Enthusiastic about acquiring new skills.
- Effective team player with good cooperative skills.
Additional Information
