Job description

About the Role

This position involves a broad array of horticultural responsibilities, including planting trees, shrubs, maintaining natural grasslands, and arranging bedding schemes. Daily maintenance duties will include mowing, pruning, digging, and strimming. The role requires proficient use of specialized machinery and power tools, alongside meticulous record-keeping to ensure all equipment is safely maintained and operational. You will also be encouraged to contribute innovative ideas to enhance and evolve the garden areas inline with strategic development goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate various horticultural equipment and machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Perform physically demanding manual labor tasks related to garden maintenance.
  • Participate in rotational duties for winter gritting and ice clearing.
  • Collaborate on initiatives to improve garden quality and execute planned landscaping projects.
  • Work a 5 out of 7 day schedule that includes occasional weekend shifts to cover university events, with specifics discussed during interview.

Candidate Profile

  • Possess at least a Level 2 diploma in horticulture or an equivalent qualification.
  • Have experience in residential, commercial, or public garden environments.
  • Understand landscape designs and bedding plans comprehensively.
  • Demonstrate extensive gardening knowledge.
  • Capable of completing essential administrative paperwork related to the role.
  • Show genuine enthusiasm and passion for horticulture.
  • Exhibit strong teamwork skills and a cooperative work ethic.
  • Meet education standards equivalent to GCSE level.
